On May 4, 2025 Luling VFD facilitated part 2 of the Basics of Canal Rescue Class multi department training. Firefighters from Luling VFD, Hahnville VFD, Killona VFD, East St. Charles VFD, Bayou Gauche VFD, and Paradis VFD participated.

A vehicle prop was submerged into a pool at a depth of approximately 10 feet of water. Firefighters worked as a team to learn techniques to enter the water, locate the submerged vehicle, gain entrance to the vehicle, and conduct primary and secondary searches to locate and extricate victims along with at what point does a rescue become a recovery. After all firefighters completed this training they were divided into groups to conduct scenario training. During scenario training firefighters utilized the techniques and teamwork skills that were learned earlier in the day and in the classroom portion of the training held earlier in the week.

Considering the number of canals, ponds, drainage ditches, and other waterways through out St. Charles Parish this was excellent training and we would like to thank our instructors for conducting the class and sharing their knowledge and expertise with us. We appreciate you.
