| Members of various St. Charles Parish Fire Departments recently participated in a Helicopter Emergency Response/Landing Zones, Emergency Triage, & Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) Awareness training program designed to strengthen our response capabilities during aviation emergencies, emergency response and landing zones.
The classroom portion of the training was instructed by Ochsner FlightCare and Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans Fire & Emergency Services, covering helicopter and aircraft operations, landing zone management, aircraft hazards, ARFF awareness, aviation fuel and fire behavior, responder safety. SMART Triage scenarios were instructed by members/instructors from Norco VFD to improve decision-making during multi-patient incidents.
The day concluded with hands-on live-fire training utilizing an LPG-fueled helicopter prop provided by Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans Fire & Emergency Services. Firefighters practiced aircraft fire suppression, hazard recognition, crew coordination, and safe operational techniques in a realistic aviation fire environment.
